Film

Film photography is new to me. I bought a vintage Canon AE-1p off an elderly man named John last spring. After sharing a short earnest conversation with John about the differences between digital and film he showed me the original receipt from 1979. Right then, I understood why film is so cherished.

Yes, it's "vintage". But, it's also real. It comes from a time long before Instagram and presets, influencers, and likes. Film wasn't about validation - it was about capturing a moment. Film was my Grandfather travelling the world - waking up early in the morning at the cottage to catch the morning dew while happening onto a father & son out for a canoe ride. That picture, that moment - hangs on. In fact, it's hanged on a wall of my grandparents home ever since I was born.

I took my film camera with me this summer as I explored western Canada and fell in love with the artistry. Not all photos turned out well. Good. It's not about the picture, it's about getting out into the world and exploring - capturing the beauty that is all around us.

Here are a few of my favourite film photos.
